Cotton Sheet Sets

I bought a set of queen size and washed and hot dryed before soaking in soda ash for an ice dye.I used concrete mixing tubs for more room - a tub per sheet - and still it was really packed tight. I took close to an hour trying to evenly arrange the fabric folds. I was generous with 4 dye colors and a good layer of ice. Cover and come back the next day. I did not anticipate how heavy each sheet would be when saturated ! An hour or so later and a whole lot of water along with some sumo wrestling wringing out the sheets and a wash in dyers detergent into the wash they go and then the dryer. I figured I had "preshrunk" the cotton which is quite heavy.Dye job came out really nice - colors strong - so they did seep all the way through the folds.When I went to put them on my bed ooops....about 6" short on the long end. So be sure to try them on before you dye orsize up to be sure! My lesson learned...one step at a time.However since I use only a 5" foam pad I was able to wrestle the fitted cover into place and the corners finally laid down with some time. No more hot dryer ! Top sheet does not have the standard big hem at the 'top end'. It's a 1" hem on all sides. Pillow cases have about a 2" hem. The cotton feels a bit rough right now but I expect more washings will soften it into more of a flannel feel.
