Jacquard's pure dehydrated juice of the genipa americana fruit is shelf-stable, water-soluble, safe and 100% natural. Used to increase the potency of jagua gels, making jagua gel from scratch or mixed with henna to create hengua, a combination of henna and jagua. Because it is soluble, dehydrated jagua juice should be used as an additive for hengua and should not affect the water to henna ratio called for in the henna recipe.
Approximate ratios for mixing jagua gel:
- 2 parts jagua powder
- .75 parts xanthan gum or other thickener
- 3 parts water
- .3 parts Eucalyptus Oil or other essential oil
If you are prone to allergies or have sensitive skin, do a small test design and wait a day before proceeding with something more elaborate.
For hengua, Jacquard recommends these mixing ratios:
For a darker, faster-developing henna stain: use 7g jagua per 50g henna (1:7 by volume)
For a deep burgundy stain: use 15g jagua per 50g henna (1:3.5 by volume)
For a dark chocolate brown stain: use 25g jagua per 50g henna (1:2 by volume)
Pre-dissolve in water or blend with henna powder to incorporate.
